Dubai

My first time in the Middle East and Arab world (aside from Turkey). Dubai wasnt at all what I expected. THere are so many cultures. Its a true melting pot ~ Indians, Arbas, Asians, Westerners, everyone under the sun really ... living harmoniously under one roof, with virtually no crime. I loved seeing the sheiks and the full burkas. I loved Indian fod for lunch too. We walked around the Dubai Creek, then took a taxi (a rather cheap one) to the only "7 Star hotel" Burj Al Arab. There was expensive perfume in the restroom and washclothes for drying your hands (no cheap paper towels in this place). Fancy dates for the taking, we gorged ourselves while staring at the most incredible fish tank, flowers and architecture I have seen. After this, we headed to the Dubai Mall... WOW! Everywhere you turned it was water fountain, the worlds largest aquarium (that you could walk through), performances, and the most amazing bookstore I have ever seen in my life (it took me hours to get out of there). As we left to leave, we were stopped by an enormous waterfountain show like the one in Vegas... but Vegas doesnt have nothing on this show! It is a wonderful place to bring kids and an even better place to blow an enormous amount of money... but its quite nice whether you are rich or poor. It was a fun day in the life of a backpacking poor-sheikh!
