The Fraser Island Camping trip

Tuesday 7th - after being on a coach for 16 hours we arrived at Rainbow Beach at 12.30 in the afternoon.  We checked into Dingos hotel and met Ryan and J who had to get on an earlier bus to the rest of us.  We were then called for a Fraser Island briefing, where we met the guy that would be in charge of our trip and were given some rules etc about the island, met the other 70 people going on the trip and then we were split into groups of 11, which was us 6, 3 other girls and another 2 guys which we will be driving in the 4x4 with for the trip.  Also had the news broken to us that there will be no toilet or shower at any of our campsites for the next 2 nights!!!! there are wild dingos that could possibly attak you!!! there are jelly fish and the current is so strong you cant swim in the sea!! and some other lovely bits and pieces! after the talk We then had a look around rainbow beach and went to the shops to get some extra supplys for our trip.  In the evening we all went to a restaurant for dinner and then had an early night.

Wednesday 8th up at 6am to get ready for Fraser Island, we were only aloud to take a small backpack full of stuff (basicly a change of clothes and another bikini, a toothbrush, ipod and thats it!!!.  we went for breakfast and then to meet the rest of our group.  We had the 4x4 checked, some other rules and then we loaded everything on, we got given our food and cooking utencils and our tents and given a map of where we were going for the next few days.   We finally got away at around lunch time and the convoy of 4x4's left for the boat.  We got on the boat which was a 10 minute ride and we reached the beach at fraiser island.  It was beautiful and we followed a map onto a track that took us onto another beach and then another winding track upto lake mckenzie, it took a good couple of hours to reach the lake as lots of the 4x4's kept getting stuck in the sand tracks so we kept getting stuck behind people! and it was so bumpy and rocky, when we finally parked up we made lunch which was beef and salad sandwiches and took a walk to the lake.  It was amazing so pretty and the water was crystal clear.  We had a swim and then noticed that we were the last people left on the beach and that we had better leave before the tide comes in on the beach and we cant get to our campsite!!  After another 2 hour bumpy drive we arrived where we needed to be it was getting dark so we quickly set up our tents! and got started on dinner which was steak and potatos, we had alchol supplys goon and beer and settled in for the night, ipod connected to the truck so we had music and the headlights on so we had light.  (Kelly and emma popped to the toilets which was behind bushes at the end of the campsite and suddenly started to hear noises, next thing this dingo starts to come over to investigate, staying calm like we had been advised gos straight out of the window!!! especially as we are slightly tipsy from the goon, we try walk away slowly but it starts to follow us back to camp so we end up screaming for help and waving our arms around the truck nearest to us turns its lights on and more people start to scream making the dingo run away!!) get back to camp to see another dingo stealing our rubish bag of left over food which was pinned to the trucks door!

Thursday 9th - woke up in our lovely comfy tents!! (no sleeping bags by the way or pillows! just the hard ground! it was 6am, everyone was hungover and couldnt be bothered to make breakfast so we got in the truck and went on our way to Indian head which was a lookout point and then to eli creek which was another fresh water creek we could swim in, spent the day there and then drove to our 2nd campsite for the night, this time we got there a bit earlier so we could set up and cook dinner in the light, 2nite was chicken stir fry, we all sat around chatting and playing games again until bed time,

Friday 10th - woke up again at around 6am and made scrambled eggs for breakfast and took a drive to another lake called wobby where there was a 2 hour walk to get to another lake, after this it was time to go back to the boat and leave the island!

(kelly: thank god i could finally have a shower!!! great experience but a little 2 hardcore for my 1st ever camping trip!!!) still cant believe the no toilets or shower thing for 3 whole days!!!  ive done it once would not be doing it again!! the views and Lake McKenzie was amazing so I am glad I got to see it!)   (Nicki:Loved It!!!! Best Experience of my trip!!! FRASER=BLOODY AMAZING!!! sooooooooooooo fun ok sooooo lots of sand but heyhoo-couldnt tell if it was just crunchy lettuce or sand!!hee!! Driving a 4x4 around 4 3 days 11 of us loose on an island with the most amazing views, lakes and lots of dark evening camp fun!!!was quality!!)
