Travelling Harfields
15th Aug 2012
Sherlock Harfield

Pog the Pig, the Wandering Herd (Aylesbury ducks), Wonkey Donkey (yes I had a pet donkey until a welsh bloke came and claimed him and took him back for rides on Poppet Sands), Misty the beautiful farm cat, Bundle the calf and of course Cushla our milking cow (I wont bother mentioning the goats or the geese - do you know how bad goats milk is and how badly a gander bits) these were some of my first pets plus many sheep dogs before that - my Father gave me my beloved Tort the Oist when I really grew up at 30; Matt had pets too in the form of Stick Insects (do you know how they multiply) and Speedy the rabbit came into our lives quite fast and left just as fast, dont ask where the Mead family put our other pet rabbit while we were at the Edinburgh Festival or the poor mouse found in Canberra Road, geckos went to the Marshall-Kalps on leaving for the USA, Tort to my Sis and I believe the Shepherds still have a Harfield guinea pig.

So on arriving in the New World, you can imagine our delight at seeing new animals, snapping turtles in the creek at the end of our garden, raccoon, ground hogs (not just the name of a movie I hear you Brits cry), deer in our back 'yard' and possums - yes really as ugly as Disney makes out.

I believe family life is not complete without an animal of some kind, I have truly loved looking after abandon dogs, but it was time to go to the local reptile show and find an pet of our own, see the rejects before we found the one we loved..... enter Sherlock.

The thing to have for kids, are giant cockroaches, you can decorate them, colour them in, put them in 'hamster balls' to roll about - but Stephen wasn't for sale as the best breading male... I wasn't going to put an offer in on him anyway!

My Bro, Jeremy always wanted a chameleon.

15th Aug 2012  Snake food
So they sell rat pups by the scoop - moments old for feeding to your pet snake.... aaah, Felicity wanted to save one and feed it cheese. Really girl!
