Syracuse - Linguaglossa

We drove north from Syracuse today to visit the Gambino winery, which is 900 metres above sea level on the slopes of Mt Etna. It would have taken most people half an hour less but we used Google maps which always seems to take us the most circuitous route. We do get to see lots of little towns that no other tourists see!

What a way to do a wine tasting. We were greeted at the door with a glass of wine then led inside to a gorgeous looking tasting room, which was more like a restaurant, with magnificent views of the surrounding mountains and countryside.  We were then seated at a table and the real tasting and lunch began.  The 6 wines on offer were accompanied by a multitude of antipasti, salumi, chick peas, lentils, sausage and rissole.

The staff all spoke perfect English and told us all about the family run winery and gave us a rundown on each of the wines. The whole thing took a couple of hours and only cost 29 Euro a head (about $45 each).

The fabulous food, tasty wines and great views from the winery helped make it another perfect day. We love retirement!!!
