Los Angeles Days 7-10: Venice and Déjà Voozle
Klara's cousin Bee's apartment was to be our home base for the next three days, talk about luxury! Our gourmet Californian experience continued in LA where on our first night we were treated to a delicious dinner at Little Dom's. Despite being exhausted from travelling we were determined to "get current" on the TV show Newsroom, and stayed up far later than we should have. Our tiredness did not hold us back during the morning hike, but perhaps showed in our inability to complete a crossword whilst sunning ourselves in Malibu. The route back along the famous and varied Sunset Boulevard gave us opportunity for a little extra sightseeing, and our wearied heads appreciated a little light-hearted entertainment in the form of Magic Mike later that evening.
The next day was equally as 'strenuous'. We cycled along Venice beach to Santa Monica Pier, where we were privvy to some LA wisdom: "internet romance, never lasts"; "it was like totally deja voozle". Overheard. Dinner at Lisa's was a perfect end to a lovely day, though with the advent of boardgames, and Klara's known competitive streak, it could have gone either way. Thankfully we were still talking to each other by the time we got home.
A morning of errands and a few poor budgeting decisions later, we headed off to Vegas, stopping only at "Mom's Store" and the most authentic diner you'll ever see, Tony's. As it got dark, each new set of lit up buildings was eagerly approached and disappointingly left behind. Our hotel when we arrived more of a city than a hotel, complete with bowling alley, cinema, and of course a casino. It was straight up to bed for us, no stopping at go, and definitely no slot machines!
