Two days in Hawaii Had a fairly good trip on Hawaiian Airlines from LAX. Bags of leg room in cattle class and well looked after. Actually got a meal on the nearly 6 hour trip - but breakfast Burrito is not my idea of a fun meal..... Got a shuttle to the motel (the Waikiki 'Aqua Wave' and took a couple of long strolls through the 'International market' which starts next door to the Hotel. A hundred and fifty plus stalls selling mostly jewelry and souvenirs and clothes. All around an enormous Banyan tree and small carp pond and waterfall. Then through the Outrigger hotel to the beach at Waikiki. As usual on this trip - the weather was perfect and the beach packed with all sorts of activities happening. We didn't bring our costumes so no swimming for us. Took a $2 (or whatever people felt like) tram with a completely manic driver. His driving was O.K. by Hawaii standards but his constant commentary and comments were totally crazy.... Found a Red Lobster (I'd been trying to get to one all through the USA) and we had a little of their specialty and a couple of enormous drinks - see pictures. The next day we went on a 'Discover Hawaii' complete full day tour. This was a really good way to see more of the Island than we had been able to do on several previous trips. A group of 18 led by our driver/guide who is a 4th generation Hawaiian and incredibly knowledgeable. He is a pilot, and the ex-head of Science (over 30 years) at the most exclusive school on the island - an absolute fount of knowledge of flora and fauna, plus lot's of great stories. As usual you need to check the pictures on Betty's Picasa site. Please let me know if you need a link as I can't post one here. Today (Sat 14th) is our last full day and we will be taking another of their tours to the Pearl Harbour ships. Should be good. More later. And hopefully I'll also upload a few pics to this blog.
