Dragons Backbone Rice Terraces After 3 days and 2 nights of travelling we arrived in Guilin. The only thing we planned to do here was the Dragons Backbone Rice Terraces. We got all the info we needed about that (how to get there on the bus!) then promptly slept for a while! The next day we headed early to the terraces. Our bus dropped us in Ping'an and we were walking to the next big village, Dazhai. There were some scenic spots in Ping'an that we went to see then headed towards Dazhai. The spots were very pretty but it was a bit misty. By the time we started walking to Dazhai the mist lifted a bit and we saw some more of the scenery. The terraces were stunning, a lush green and all perfectly neat. They started being built 700 years ago so they were all very organised by the time we saw them. Along the walk we were harrassed a lot by locals wanting to be our guide and in the end had to give in to one lady as we got horribly lost in a village along the way. We had to pay her 10Y to get us back to the path! We got caught in some very heavy rain and just had to keep walking in it (luckily we had macs) as there was no shelter at all! Eventually, damp and tired but once again speechless from the stunning landscape, we arrived in Dazhai, where we were to spend the night. After a lovely shower we settled into the common room, equipped with terrific views and scrabble! The next morning we had pancakes and bacon, a nice hearty breakfast, before getting the bus back to Guilin and our connecting one to Yangshuo.
