Do not, I repeat do not believe the lies you read about Lima being ugly and dangerous, it is quite the contrary. Beautiful seaside areas like El Barranco and hopping nightlife areas like the Panamericano in el norte make this a must see city. Great jungle town with 300,000 plus inhabitants right on the Amazon river. There are no cars, no motos, and i didnt even see any bicycles. the streets are narrow for walking only and everyting is impeccably clean, no trash on the ground, heavy fines for throwing trash etc. Its cleaner than most small towns in the States. The Brazilian town of Tabatinga borders Leticia, and you can just walk from town to town without passport checks.
