Week 13 -- family

Noticed an exponential increase in food, cleaning products and drink costs this week. Tom and joe have obviously been starving themselves for several weeks before they got out here! Certainly put a strain on our meagre budget.Skied hard on Monday and Tuesday then went up to val d'isere for Wednesday. Great skiing up there but spring conditions meant soupy slush by 2 pm in the afternoon so we, along with every other skier in the resort headed up to the grand motte at 3468m to get some winter snow conditions. It was beautiful up there - clear blue skies and views into Italy and Switzerland, the snow wasn't bad either! Apparently, the high altitude and the nature of the snow that falls in the alps creates a phenomenon where it's  melting point is raised to 10 degrees. Uncanny! Headed back home and tried my hand at making a cake which ended up being a disaster because joe didn't butter the cake tin properly! Just can't get the staff. temperature hit 25degrees in the valley and 21 degrees in les coches today. Temperatures are set to drop 10 degrees by Sunday  so looking forward to thatBoys are impressed with the new carpet and sofa bed and are actually a pleasure to be with. I reckon not having your mum and dad on hand for 6 months has had a maturing effect on them both. So, that means we can do this all over again next year!Starting to think about Clare's birthday which will be here pretty soon after we return. That marks the end of our "gap year." Guess we are just about ready to integrate back into normal life.Spent Thursday relaxing and starting the search for work back home. Rest of the week has flown by finishing off with a big ski day in les arcs on Friday. Joe and myself went up the mountain for the last run without Tom and Clare and stopped off at the plein Soleil for a weissbier in the evening sun on the return. Nice!Boys with us for a few days but if conditions don't improve on the slopes, I reckon I have had my last ski of the season.Filenote: new ski boots have become more comfortable. Now resemble 2 over-tightened G clamps on each foot rather than bear trap.
