UK to Gaza Aid Convoy
21st Feb 2009 - 22nd Feb 2009
Day 8 - Uojdah - Algiers

Day 8 – We arrived in Algeria through the Ouhdah boarder, and because this boarder has been closed for 15 years (due to ownership disputes of the deserts between Algeria and Morocco) the crossing procedures as not very smooth – it took us 10 hours to make the cross after all the paper work has been checked, passports stamped, vehicles granted access and insurance whilst on Algerian soil. This effectively meant we were behind by one day.

As we entered the town of Magnia in Algeria, the crowed greetings and welcomes were overwhelming and spectacular, as the crowds (men, women, and children) were out on the street in the cold (around 11pm) expressing their support by chanting Freedom to Palestine, Long live Palestine, and May Allah Guide us to Gaza.

It was obvious that the crowds were following the Convoy’s progress on TV and internet and had been expecting us.

After a long rally on the roads  we arrived at one of the local hotels in Magnia were we camped out for the night and set to Algiers the next morning.

That day was the hardest day in the convoy. We drove for 20 hours (with a few stops in between).

More to come ...... (depending on internet availability)
