Caracas, Venezuela

The trip home took days... I caught an overnight bus to Caracas, spent the morning in the city and the afternoon in the airport. An overnight flight to Buenos Aires, Argentina, a connecting flight to Sau Paulo, Brazil, followed by a day in the airport... Another overnight flight to Johannesburg, South Africa, and a connecting flight to Cape Town. A long journey, a few countries... but happy to be...

Taganga

Hostel Del Filepe is the place where people travelling South America, end their months of travel and relax in hammocks, choosing dinner from a platter of fresh fish, drinking whisky and snorting coke! What a bizarre lifestyle. Life stands still here. You start to recognise the locals as you walk down the beach front. You get your local spot for dinner, your fruit juice stand, your cocktail bar.....

Tyrona National Park

The Carribean Coast! The beaches were white and sandy, jungle up the mountains, fireflies at night, gold dust in the streams, the legend of El Dorardo was meant to be set here! There were Indian ruins on the mountain, huge waves in the ocean, hammocks on the beach front, it was warm enough to sleep under the stars and walk along the beach by moonlight. This was the first time I relaxed in months ...

Cartagena

Finally I arrived on the Carribean coast. With only 2 weeks in Colombia, I had to priorities my remaining days. I spent a morning in the town of Cartagena, which is surrounded by walls. The hustle and bustle of the Saturday markets in the old town, music blaring from the small shops, fruit sellers on all corners, lovely balconies with huge churches made this a beautiful and quaint town to visit. I...

Medellin

Renowned to hold some of the worlds most beautiful woman... plenty of silicon to go around. I stayed in an awesome hostel called the Black Sheep - be prepared to have a home - dont expect to leave. I met a bunch of Israelies and we went paragliding. What an awesome experience! Flying above the city and along some waterfalls. I was taking some photos and next time I looked down we were unbelie...

Cali

Next stop was Cali where I did a day trip to the lovely town of San Cipriano. After out 2 hour bus ride we were greeted by some kids who would be our guide for the day. San Cipriano has no road access so you get there by rail. Few trains pass this way so the locals have invented a push/pull system with a wooden platform on the rails or the faster way a motorbike attached to a wooden platform an...

Pasto, Colombia

We crossed the border after 10pm and entered Colombia illegally. A great night out with some of the locals in the border town of Ipiales with a great bunch of 8 people I had met in Quito. The following day, Sunday, we visited an incredible church where millions of miracles have taken place. We were blessed in Spanish and sprinkled with confetti. The plagues on the walls commemorating and givi...

Ipiales, Colombia

A couple in our group were considering buying a house on a lagoon near the town of Pasto. We all ventured up to this tiny fishing village with a variety of fish restaurants lining the nearby stream. It rained for the majority of the time so we ate plenty of food, fresh fish, by the wood fire, drank some hot fruit juice with some warming alcohol, played some games from around the world and made ou...

Quito and the Equator

A day in Quito to do washing and catch up with the friends I had made in Galapagos as well as colllect my visa. In addition I took a quick day trip to the equator, afterwhich the country is named. I visited an amazing museum where you try various experiments in the northern hemisphere, southern hemisphere and on the equator. A good laugh!...

Galapagos Islands

My favourite part of my trip to South America had to be the Galapagos Islands. As much as I had watched on TV, studied at school and university, read, and heard of this archipelago I never expected it to be this unique and untouched. The pictures are really the only way to describe this paradise!...
