I caught an overnight bus to Caracas, spent the morning in the city and the afternoon in the airport. An overnight flight to Buenos Aires, Argentina, a connecting flight to Sau Paulo, Brazil, followed by a day in the airport... Another overnight flight to Johannesburg, South Africa, and a connecting flight to Cape Town. What a bizarre lifestyle. Life stands still here. You start to recognise the locals as you walk down the beach front. The beaches were white and sandy, jungle up the mountains, fireflies at night, gold dust in the streams, the legend of El Dorardo was meant to be set here! There were Indian ruins on the mountain, huge waves in the ocean, hammocks on the beach front, it was warm enough to sleep under the stars and walk along the beach by moonlight. With only 2 weeks in Colombia, I had to priorities my remaining days. I spent a morning in the town of Cartagena, which is surrounded by walls. The hustle and bustle of the Saturday markets in the old town, music blaring from the small shops, fruit sellers on all corners, lovely balconies with huge churches made this a beautiful and quaint town to visit. I stayed in an awesome hostel called the Black Sheep - be prepared to have a home - dont expect to leave. I met a bunch of Israelies and we went paragliding. What an awesome experience! After out 2 hour bus ride we were greeted by some kids who would be our guide for the day. San Cipriano has no road access so you get there by rail. A great night out with some of the locals in the border town of Ipiales with a great bunch of 8 people I had met in Quito. We all ventured up to this tiny fishing village with a variety of fish restaurants lining the nearby stream. In addition I took a quick day trip to the equator, afterwhich the country is named. I visited an amazing museum where you try various experiments in the northern hemisphere, southern hemisphere and on the equator.
