cliveninatravel

Clive and I met whilst on a round the world trip on our motorbikes in 2002. On that trip we travelled 32,000 miles in 95 days, averaging more than 400 miles a day.Since then we have made several shorter trips and have set up this site so that we can record our memories in an accessible manner to those not with us, and as a reminder when we return. Last year we rode round South America and will be off to Timbuctu at the end of October 09. To that end I have a new bike that is smaller than the last one and Clive has a new version of his old Adventure. This is a short trip as we must be back in time for Xmas. Here we go......

South America. Ecuador, Colombia,Venezuela

30th Dec TuesSunny day. Work our way slowly out of town. Usual lack of signs meant lots of asking. We hate to see all the rubbish on the way out just as there had been on the way in. As we have gone further north in Peru , the rubbish beside the road has got worse. Piura is pretty bad. Rubbish is dumped by any road and then blows in the wind all over the countryside. Plastic bags hang from scrub i...

13th Dec SatWe are going to be leaving Chile today after about 3 weeks travelling. We will not be sorry to say good bye to plastic processed cheese for breakfast and melted in sandwiches, and the very thin loo paper which has to be chucked after use into a bin beside the loo. We have found the people to be very friendly and helpful, have made great use of free wifi in almost every hotel of any kin...

South America 2008/9 part 1

30th Sepember 2008Our journey to South America begins. This time the bikes leave first . On 30th September 2008 we loaded them aboard a borrowed truck in drizzling rain and delivered them to Seafast Warehousing in Tilbury from whence they will end up in a container on a vessel called MV Monte Pascoal. The sea voyage will take 21 days to Buenos Aires. Will I see my packed panniers again? We had to ...

15th jan monOff to Botswana! Only 60 kms to a ferry across the Zambezi . Zambia looks much the same here as it did in the north. I have found the motorbiking rather dull in this country. Clive has liked it.! I thought Livingstone had lots to offer and was good. Lusaka seemed okay but we did hear all sorts of stories about the crime. Some good looking big farms all around Lusaka especially. Our last...

Not raining however as we set off at 9.15am for Dover to catch ferry at 2.25pm. It did rain after Stansted but not too heavy.
