Diary for The Grand Van Tour

Warwick

2010-12-01 to 2010-12-03

As the whole country descends into winter chaos and carnage, I seem to have landed in the only area where there has been very little snow at all. However at minus 8 in a caravan, I can't really get too excited about missing the worst of the weather - methinks a bit of snow on my roof might have provided a bit more insulation!

Tip of the Day - it's race day here on Sunday but I can't really see that going ahead so today's tip is about bargain entry fees into our great historic sites like Warwick Castle - just make sure you check on line first for any special deals, where I found I could snap up £20 tickets for just £9. The bad new however, was I bought one for Jim as well who despite heroic efforts to get down here had to give up on the outskirts of Garforth (Over the years I guess a lot of people have given up on the outskirts of Garforth, lol)

So in the end only a £2 discount, but it really is a might fine castle with, unusually, most of it still in tact and loads to see and some excellent virtual reality along the lines of the

Jorvik Exhibition.

So despite the disappointment of Jim's no show, so far I've enjoyed a brisk winter walk along the river and frozen canal over to Royal Leamington Spa which, fitting of it's rather grand title is very impressive with it's wide streets, parks and famous large, bright white Regency buildings.
