Hey hey everyone,
I`m so sorry that it`s been such a long time since my last entry, but you have to trust me when I say that we really haven’t done much to warrant a new diary entry :0)
So it’s nearly time to leave this place, we both can’t believe that we’ve been in Brisbane for 13½ weeks, time is really flying by. I can’t complain though, Brisbane has been a nice little place to live for the last 3 months, we’ve enjoyed living in our cosy little flat and having our own space for a while, I think we’ll both be a little sad to say goodbye to Brisbane but we’re looking forward to moving on now.
So work-wise, it’s been a bit of a struggle from the word go. So I got that job for that mining company Comalco for 4 days, lame! Then I worked for a company called Alcan (another mining company) for another 4 days, even lamer! And then I got a job for ANOTHER mining company called Inco, for a month, so that wasn’t quite so lame. I met some really nice people there, who we’ve kept in touch with since. I’m now working for the Queensland Government and I’m the project coordinator so it beats all those jobs hands down as I actually have some responsibility again…I’m not just the photocopy girl! :0)
So from working I’d say that I’ve saved about 2 grand which is pretty good cos I’ve been paying rent and paying for shopping etc, so I’m quite pleased with that. Andrew is with a recruitment agency called Workforce Solutions and they’ve found him quite a bit of work over the last month, so he’s doing well for money too. We should hopefully have enough moolah to see us through to the end of the trip now.
So what interesting things have happened recently, well we’ve been to a boat party on the Brisbane River which was cool, it was the birthdays of 2 of the girls that I met at Inco, we had a cool time. There was a DJ and a buffet…and then we went to this club called Friday’s, which was in a wicked setting but was a bit of a meat market.
We’ve had a few animal/insect incidents, both recently. The other night I opened the back door and a bloody gecko came in, so we tried to get him out using a broom to make him run in the direction we wanted – but he wasn’t really having any of it, and at one attempt we opened the door hoping that he’d run out but a 2nd bugger came charging in…so we had 2 little fellas making themselves at home in our place. It took a pretty long time to get them both out whilst trying not to let any more in! There are loads around at night; they are always on our backdoor which is glass, so we can just see their little underbellies
Then last week (whilst I was on the loo), I looked up and there in front of me on the shower tiles was an enormous SPIDER! I mean this thing was bigger than any spider we’ve seen so far; I had to jump up mid-pee (not pleasant) as it scared me so much. It was a huntsman spider (and they can grow to be enormous), so I called Andy in to look and then we had to decide whether to leave it there or get rid of it…anyways, we decided that he wouldn’t harm us and hopefully wouldn’t make his way into our bed in the night, so we left him there and he was gone in the morning, thank god! We haven’t seen any Redback or Funnelweb spiders yet, and fingers crossed we won’t…but someone at work told me that there are loads in Perth, like under chairs and all sorts
The weather is getting warmer here now, it’s still Winter until the 1st of September and the temperature is already rising day by day and has hit 29 already! We’ve had a few rainy days though and the forecast for the week is not that great. For the last 2 days we’ve had torrential rain that has made it sound like the house is going to fall down…I can’t wait to see a tropical storm though, everyone says they are wicked. I think when we get to the Northern Territory it’s gonna be bloody boiling, but it should be wicked fun.
So we’re headed off to a place called Noosa next, it’s a beach town and I think we’re gonna take some surfing lessons…I’ll update you guys some more when we get there.
I’ll upload some piccies when my camera has been repaired.
Peace out to everyone, miss you all xxx
