See I told you I`d get around to putting more pictures on!! I`ll put even more on in a few days! Been pretty busy since the last post, so much to do and so little time!! We went to the costal town of Noosa after leaving Kevin and Nina`s farm, only stayed for two days but could happily have extended it to two months!! Noosa is beautiful, the sea is so warm its a bit like having a bath...probably for the best really! We took a hike into the national park and saw koalas in the wild as well as a few scrub turkeys, loads of wierd plant life and some incredible ocean views. Also hired a boat and took a cruise down the river, parking up on the sand bed and taking a dip in the sea!
The next stop was the relatively un-impressive Harvey Bay but we only stayed for one night as we caught a ferry to Fraser Island (the world`s largest sand Island) where a group of 26 backpackers hired 3 four wheel drives and some camping equipment and went off on a safari for 3 days!!
We each took turns to drive which was pretty fun coz there are no tarmac roads so its all real off - roading! Spent the 3 days exploring some of the island`s highlights including Indian head, a tiger shark breeding ground and some faboulous lakes like lake Mackenzie which is the most beautiful crystal clear lake you could ever hope to see. We spent the evenings drinking beer and Goon (Aussie for boxes of wine) around our tents in the moonlight (no need for torches as the moon was so bright!). There were a few problems along the way tho... not least the combination of 2 really daft Italien guys and a control freak Aussie in our car!...It was all good when we just fed them pleanty of Goon tho!! Other down sides included a lack of plumbing making a shovel and a torch our new best friends (nice!!), and the huge dingo, snake, spider, stinger and shark populations!! Seriously this island has got just about every man-eating animal in Australia on it! T`was all good tho, asside from one small spider bite on my finger and 40 odd sand fly bites I arrived back on the mainland unharmed! We did see some dingos at our camp, on the last night one managed to get into one of our eskys and ate the rest of our meat! But one of the guys chased it off with the toilet shovel! Also saw loads of funnelweb spiders...they are extremely venemous and live under the ground so it was really comforting to know that the only thing between you and them was a groud sheet and maybe some sand! Thankfully no snake sightings as yet (touch wood)
Having survived our desert island adventure, we have now headed further north to Airlie Beach from where we`re going to spend a few days sailing around the Whitsunday Islands on the barrier reef!! Really looking forward to that!!
Good to hear from everybody, hope you are all well, Huge happy birthday to Mr Emery, I hope you have a fantastic day!! and Congratulations to Sharon, nice one mate hope its going well so far!! Its great to hear what everyone`s up to back home, keep me posted and I`ll speak to you all soon xx
