Fast Forward has a distinctive look and is a head-turner. This one-owner yacht was designed by Phil Southwell and custom built for her owner by the Jacobs Bros in Cape Town and launched in 1993. She is the perfect example of a strong, well maintained blue water cruising yacht that has been successfully sailed by a couple for the past 9 years. She has been fitted and equipped for serious world cruising. Having logged more than 60,000 nautical miles on her journey around the globe, she will provide you with safety, speed and sea kindliness for your onward adventures, be they in the tropics or colder climes. She carries 2000 litres of diesel, 2000 litres of water ensuring self sufficiency in remote locations for considerable lengths of time.

She is a cutter rigged sloop with a slab reefing, fully battened mainsail. Fast Forward delivers very respectable performance characteristics, and given the right wind conditions she will easily do 200 nautical miles per day. Her longest passage being 3640 nautical miles from Sailinas, Ecuador to Fatu Hiva, French Polynesia took only 18 days; and she covered the 440 nautical miles from Minerva Reef to Savu Savu, Fiji in just 2 days. She also sails well to windward. In light to moderate conditions, the 2 meter folding bowsprit affords you further sail plan options including a light wind genoa, a code 3, or one of two asymmetricals.
The aluminium dodger/bimini provide the ultimate protection from the elements both at anchor and whilst underway. In addition to providing good visibility, the centre cockpit provides a safe haven in which you can reef without having to go forward to the mast. That said, she also boasts a very safe and easy to use anti-jibe system that is easily handled by one person from the confines of the cockpit. This is also a dry cockpit in rough conditions. Most of the halyards and reefing lines run back to the cockpit and are coiled in the recessed box under the folding companionway door, thereby keeping the cockpit safe and uncluttered.
The standing rigging was replaced in March 2008. All eleven winches are Harken, four of which are electric. Overall the deck is very organized and uncluttered thanks to the large lazarettes and lockers. She has twin anchor rollers that are home to a CQR and a Rocna anchor; two spinnaker poles are also part of her inventory. Her huge sail locker at the bow has its own collision bulkhead and bilge pumps. The 18hp retractable Max Power bow thruster makes docking this large yacht with only 2 people on board an absolute cinch. The robust Whitlock steering and autopilot equipment has provided us with exceptional performance on this journey, and apart from having to replace a new motor on the autopilot 3 years ago it has been an indispensable 3rd member of our crew. The custom designed Whitlock reverse steering wheel makes it easy to use the engine and bow thruster controls when maneuvering in close quarters.
The navigation equipment inventory is extensive and includes an AIS SLR 200; Pactor III Pro modem for offshore communication; as well as a Garmin 5012 touch screen chart plotter at the helm. An additional chart plotting system as well as the radar are located in the nav station which is not only visible from the helm, but also from the small settee opposite which doubles as a safe and comfortable sea berth.
The davits have been designed for ease of use, enabling one person to launch and haul the dinghy. The teak transom boarding area is not only aesthetically pleasing and practical, but also serves a great swimming platform for water activities.

Fast Forward’s beautifully crafted and spacious interior has a bright and airy feel which is attributed to her well finished Canadian maple interior, cream vinyl headlining and cream leather upholstery. The primary custom feature is the luxuriously comfortable saloon amidships featuring a C-shaped seating area that can easily seat 8 around the beautifully crafted circular table. Three large windows in the slightly raised coachroof provide an enormous amount of natural light and headroom.
Eleven port lights and ten hatches throughout provide ample cross-ventilation.
Her full length galley is extremely practical and the onyx Staron countertops coupled with the under-counter lighting simply add a glamorously modern touch. Work area is generous and there is ample storage. Major components are thoughtfully placed within reach, and one is safely able to prepare a meal even at the most severe angles!
Accommodation includes a luxuriously spacious full width master cabin which features a walk-around centerline queen sized bed, LCD TV, good ventilation, ample storage includes a full length hanging locker. The ensuite features a bath tub/shower. Two single berths are located just forward of the mast, which share a common head. This cabin features a dividing screen that can be pulled out to create two private berths. The counter tops are onyx Staron in both heads. The quarter cabin has been converted into a storeroom.
The engine, generator, desalinator and other equipment is easily accessed via nine removable side panels, two sets of steps and the landing (in companionway).
In closing, Fast Forward is a robust and ruggedly beautiful cruiser and needs to be seen to be fully appreciated.
