G'day mate...

2012-07-09

So, Cairns… it loved raining there. We were welcomed with rain and sent off on the Greyhound with a torrential downpour, what a treat!! The hostel was pretty nice though and we met some cool people including a couple of really cute Frenchies and a lovely Canadian girl who was our roomy who we proceeded to drink a serious amount of 'goon' (very cheap, seriously sugary, teeth rotting wine) with… That stuff is seriously cheap though and seeing as we're actually budgeting (unlike in America) then goon it is!! We spent 2 nights there, mainly catching up on sleep though jet lag doesn't appear to have hit us too hard, I went to bed at 7pm on our first night here, slept for 14 hours and have felt fine since. We did venture outside of the hostel but the weather has been pretty rubbish so going to the Great Barrier Reef would have been pointless if I was only snorkelling as it would've been too choppy so hopefully we can do that elsewhere. So apart from boozing, making friends & me trying to get back in shape (15 minute runs are killing me at the moment) and cooking up a pot of pasta and sauce that could've fed the whole of Cairns but was actually only meant for 10 (and cost about $10), we haven't really seen much of Australia yet. Saying that though we've economised well, goon is cheap and we didn't pay for the mammoth pasta meal (I just cooked it) plus amongst the 10 million questions we fired at the hostel receptionist she refunded us way too much money for nights we didn't stay and a free one for booking the Greyhound with them so we actually got our stay for free, cheers!!

I'm travelling at the moment as I usually am when I write this. It's 18:24 on Monday 9th. 'm on a Greyhound bus to Townsville, we're going to head straight to Magnetic Island on the 9:30pm ferry as we've been told Townsville is Dullsville and I'm not sure I can handle that and rain lol!! Apparently Magnetic Island is home to some uber cute Koala bears who Kate wants to squeeze to death, I'm sure that can be arranged. Also, it's a National Park so will no doubt be gorgeous… fingers crossed for good weather!! Please please pleaseeeeee!!!

Oh and as I'm writing this I'm desperately trying not to breathe in the stink of the man sat in front of me; he doesn't look like a well one at all, coughing and spluttering and generally making Kate feel sick. Bleurgh, don't touch us!!

Cheerio for now. Only 30 mins to go… (of a 6 hour journey)… I'm not sure what I've been doing, seems to have gone very fast!?! Looking at the beautiful sunny scenery perhaps… oh no, it's still raining. Sort yourself out Australia or I'm leaving ;) xxxx
