Today we finally get started for our tour and we transfer about 90 miles up north to Scarborough in Maine, where we check in to a lovely campground at a little lake. En route accompanied by beautiful sunshine, we already get first glimpses of the beginning „Indian Summer“ moving into the region. New England is famous for this „Spectacle to all senses“, in which for a couple of weeks in autumn the already spectacular countryside is changing to a breathtaking palette of colors no artist from this world could create with a paintbrush. Following our path, little picturesque fisherman’s villages mach up with sophisticated holiday resorts at the sea and opulent homes in typical New England style. After a stroll through Portland, the largest city in the state of Maine, we close our first day with a night cap in a Irish pub.
Heute geht unsere Tour endgültig los und wir verschieben uns rund 130 km nordwärts nach Scarborough in Maine, wo wir einen wunderschönen Campground an einem idyllischen See finden. Schon auf der Fahrt der Küste entlang erhalten wir bei strahlendem Sonnenschein die ersten Eindrücke des beginnenden „Indian Summer“. New England ist für dieses Sinnes-Spektakel berühmt, bei dem sich die ohnehin schon äusserst reizvolle Landschaft für ein paar Wochen im Herbst in eine betörende Farbenpracht verwandelt, wie es kein irdischer Künstler zu malen im Stande wäre. Entlang unseres Weges wechseln sich hübsche, kleine Fischerdörfer mit mondänen Badeorten und prachtvollen Villenquartieren im New England Stil ab. Ein Bummel durch Portland, der grössten Stadt im Bundesstaat Maine, mit Einkehr in einem irischen Pub rundet unseren ersten Tag „on Tour“ ab.
