Gina Rodriguez Dishes On 'Deepwater Horizon' with Women's Health Mag - Just Jared

2016-04-17

Gina Rodriguez wows on the May 2016 cover of Womens Health magazine.Heres what the 31-year-old Jane The Virgin actress had to share with the glossy:On her definition of health: My definition is definitely going to be just MY definition, because we all go through our own journeys with our body and the discovery of whats best for our body. I have Hashimotos disease, which is a deficiency of the pituitary gland in my thyroid, hypothyroidism. So for me, I know the definition of health is staying true to whats going to make me live the longest when it comes to Hashimotos. Thats no glutenas much as I love bread. Thats chilling on the soy, trying not to have fluoride; thats working out, getting natural sugars. Its very difficult to keep this lifestyle because I was raised so differently being Puerto Rican. You have bread for breakfast, lunch and dinner. But I do want to create the best life possible for me because I have been given so many blessings, so theres just no need for me to disrupt that. Im not perfect, I love to indulge as everybody else does, I just know that I have been given these opportunities and I think its best for me to take care of me, because thats what gets me through every day.On what keeps her grounded in Hollywood: I know that this journey hasnt been easy or quick. It seems to almost get harder because my dreams get bigger and I desire more. The idea of staying grounded is so crazy to me because I remember what it was before those dreams came true. I remember all the challenges and obstacles and I see the new challenges and obstacles as I go along. Everything comes to an end. Every chapter has an end. Im not going to be Jane the Virgin forever. Im going to do movies that fail; hopefully Ill do movies that succeed. I want to do theatre, I want to play different characters and I want to transform, so I need to remember that the reason that I got there was because of hard work, was because of the fact I know that it could be taken away from me at any minute, because I know that there are millions of people that would love to be in my shoes. Im not going to take that for granted. Im definitely pushed by Gods grace and theres not a second that goes by that I dont thank everything and everyone and everything around me for it.On her upcoming projects: Deepwater Horizon which comes outthis year, September 30th of this year, was tremendous. Im not going to say its biographical to a tee, but its one persons account of the incident, and youre really just looking at the day of the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico which happened back in 2010. Youre looking at the survivors of the incident and their heroic journey through that day and that very sad, very scary, very tragic day. I get to play Andrea Fleytas and she was quite the hero and I feel very, very lucky I get to step in her shoes for a millisecond because theres no way I couldve done what she did. That ones going to be an intense, amazing movie because Peter Berg is through the roof, Mark Wahlberg, John Malkovich, Kurt Russell, just giants around me teaching me so much, and Kate Hudson.
