‘Happy New Year everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My name is Asma and proud to be in the Mtomondoni sponsorship program. Am also happy to inform you that I have this year joined secondary school i.e form 1 after completion of my primary level of education at Mtwapa Academy last year. The name of my new school is called N’gombeni Girls’ boarding Secondary School located within our Kilifi County and about 40 miles from Mtwapa.Our school was built by the Kenyan government 4 years back and has a student population of 400 girl students from form 1 up to form 4.Each form is composed of 2 classrooms. The normal school day begins at 4.00am as the wake up time and start preparing for the busy school day. In summary here is our school daily routine;-
6.00am-7.00am………………………………breakfast and general cleaning.
7.00am-8.00am……………………………….special teaching and revision on previous day’s work.
8.00am-9.20am morning classes
9.20am-9.30am……………………………….short break.
9.30am-10.50am……………………………second session on morning classes.
10.50am-11.10am………………………….long break.
11.10am-12.30pm…………………………third session on morning classes.
12.30pm-1.00 pm……………………… .afternoon lunch.
1.00pm-2.00pm………………………… revision work.
2.00 pm-4.00pm………………………… afternoon class session begin
4.00pm-5.00pm…………………………….break.
5.00pm-6.30pm……………………………..games,debate,clubs etc.
6.30pm-7.00pm-------------------------are evening meal/super.
General the kind of food menu we take for breakfast, lunch and super while at school is ‘ugali’ with cabbage, beef with rice, beans with rice, rice with pigeon peas and pilau.For breakfast we normal take tea with bread.
The kind of subject I take at the moment are Business Studies,History,Chemistry,Agriculture,Mathematics,Biology,Geography,Physics,English and Christian Religion Education. Interestingly here is that, though am a Muslim but since the school is a Christian based I therefore take C.R.E.
Our school is built within a village where the locals are Christians from the Anglican Churches of Kenya (ACK).For their livelihood, the locals are farmers where the do agriculture and keeping of livestock. For the plants (agriculture),the locals plant mostly maize(corn) as their stable food. For the livestock keeping they keep goats and cows.
The main means of transport to and from our school which is about 4 miles away from the main road is by use of the village motorcycles popularly known as the ‘boda boda’.
