Diary for Denniss Thoughts

Spicy Italian Meatball Recipe

2017-03-08

Whenever I want to write about dinner recipes my dilemma is "should I go vegetarian? Should I do meat? If I do meat--what kind?" My husband said to write venison recipes---good idea---we'll save that for another time! Decisions, decisions. The final meal began with potato knishes (potatoes and onions in puff pastry) that rendered the libation sweet and dark with a nice bite and OK oak. The main dish was slow cooker meatballs grape jelly in a cabbage, tomato, and onion sauce over brown rice, hardly a traditional white wine pairing. And yet things did work out fairly well. The drink tasted of caramel with light acidity and sweetness. Fresh strawberries definitely muted the wine, except for the oak, which bounced back excessively.Antonia made crispy oysters and cilantro plantain jam for one of her two dishes. For the other, she fried yellow plantains and served them with spicy slaw. Lisa mixed plantains with pan roasted duck in a spicy mango papaya salsa. She also made a sweet plantain crispy fritter with a kumquat, orange, and cucumber salad. Richard made pork meatballs with ripe plantains for one dish and fried green plantain chips with ripe plantain salsa for the other.Get a big red Beefmaster and lop off a few slabs for a sandwich. Decide for yourself how Mister Stripey stacks up to Brandywine. Make a salad, a casserole, pizza and italian meatballs. Eat the tiny ones like popcorn. See for yourself if Great White tastes like sharks.Last (slow cooker beef recipes now), but not least, is to make your meals from scratch. Spaghetti sauce in a jar averages around $2.00 per meal. Making it from scratch costs around $0.50 (and tastes better too). Ever thought of making your own sweet & sour sauce? You'd be suprised at what you can come up with. You can even do fun snacks from scratch, and probably save money on that box of cookies or crackers. Why not make cupcakes or cookies instead of buying Little Debbie cakes?
