Day 12-July 17, 2017-Omaha, NE-Casino, Old Market, Beer, Steak and Baseball

Another hot and humid day-97

Headed into Omaha, which is a lot closer than I thought, only 4 miles over the river.  But on the way we saw 2 more casinos.  It was early so we stopped into Ameristar for a while to try our luck.  When we left we decided to stay out of casinos for a while.   Everyone I spoke to said to go to the Old Market District so that’s where we headed.  Nice, different shops up and down cobblestone streets.  Poked through a few and strolled around and found Upstream Brewery.  Stopped in for a taste.  I had a Cholacalaca Milk Stout float.  I’ve never sipped beer through a straw before but this was really refreshing on a hot day.  Drove to Lauritzen Gardens but by the time we got there it was too late to go in so we drove back into Omaha for a great dinner at Sullivan’s Steak House.  We shared lobster bisque, scalloped potatoes and a great cowboy ribeye.  I loved that they had their name etched in the steak knives.  We were early and the only people in the restaurant so we had the attention of all the staff and a nice conversation with our waiter and the managers.  Very nice place, I would go back anytime.  Baseball tonight is at Werner Field in Papillion, NE, 15 miles from Omaha.  We’ve been here before a couple of years ago.  The Omaha Storm Chasers (AAA affiliate of the KC Royals) vs. The Colorado Springs Sky Sox (we’ve seen both teams before).  One year we watched the Sky Sox play in so many other cities we felt like groupies.   A hot night, 89 at game time.  The Storm Chasers have more mascots than any team we’ve seen.  There’s Vortex, the tornado, Stormy, Casey, a blue cat type thing, Sir Loin, a steak, Corny, a cob of corn and a bottle cap looking thingy.  There are 5 seats specially painted that are never sold to honor the memory of fallen soldiers in the five military branches.  I’ve never seen this before.  The game was tied 3-3 in the bottom of the 11th inning when we left.  It was late and there were only die-hard fans left in the stadium.  We’re off again tomorrow.
