Day 43-August 17, 2017-To Houston, TX

Drove 234 miles in 5 hours

Oh boy is it hot-102!

Took a half hour to get back on I-10 but a very pretty drive through rolling, winding hills.  We passed more big ranches with fancy iron gates and names like “Enchanted Springs”, “Lacy Oak” and “Double Diamond”.  Saw a couple of deer munching grass in a field.  Got on I-10 in San Antonio where the traffic was heavy but not as bad as El Paso.  The entrance ramps here are very short, too.   Listened to the book on tape again once we got out of heavy traffic and back to only 3 lanes.  Drove over a sign for “Woman Hollering Creek” and, of course, I had to google it.  Seems  it was named because supposedly a woman drowned her child in the creek.  They warned not to get too close because she’ll pull you in thinking you are her child.  There have also been occasional sightings of her and wails of misery coming from the creek.  Glad we sped over it and didn’t stop. Instead of going through Houston and south to the campground we got off I-10 for the last 50 miles and drove on route 36, a nice country road with cotton fields and small towns.  Big campground, nice woman who owns it, looks like mostly long term people.  We set up and thought about going to the baseball game tonight but we didn’t get in til after 4PM, it’s still very hot and we’re both tired.  Decided to just laze around in the air conditioning tonight.
