Day 44-August 18, 2017-Sugar Land, TX Skeeters

Texas size hot-111 at 12 noon

Woke up to heat advisories on our phones.  They’re predicting 115 today and humid.  After breakfast we rode around the area.  Richmond is a southwest suburb of Houston.  We found ourselves driving through new housing developments with big beautiful homes so we had to get nosy and go in to a few of them.  Met the builder in one.  Very nice big homes, small lots.  Not really bad prices either but we don’t know what the cost of living is here.  People probably commute to Houston.  New strip malls and shopping centers to go along with all the new homes, too.  Got fueled up then back to the campground to read and cool off, it’s really hot but I don’t think it’s as humid as Florida.  Ask me later when I’m out in it for a while.  We decided to brave the heat and go to a baseball game tonight.  All the seats are in the shade and the sun goes down about an hour after game time.  The Sugar Land (another suburb of Houston) Skeeters vs. the York (PA) Revolution at Constellation Field.  We came to a couple of games here last year and really enjoyed the team and the fans.  Swatson (yes, a neon green mosquito) is the mascot and he really gets into the game.  Hopefully there’s a fan in the costume because the heat is brutal tonight. Lots of vendors and give-a-ways, the most popular being a bright orange neck wrap soaked in ice water given away by a fitness club. They did seem to cool it down a bit.  Last year when we were here we were interviewed by Jessica from ESPN and she was here tonight and remembered us.  A good game, the home team was ahead until the 8th inning and then they lost by 6-5 in the bottom of the 9th.  Nice fireworks but we’ve seen better.  The ride back to the campground was adventurous.  We got on a highway and the GPS kept wanting us to get off at exits that didn’t exist.  Lots of construction, re-routing and orange cones.  Finally found our way back after about a half hour that should have taken 10 minutes.
