Greatest Lynyrd Skynyrd Songs

When you perform in a Country/Variety Band, you usually have a large demographic of people to try to make, and keep, happy for the evening. Of the considerable number of songs the Lynrd Skynrd did in their long vocation, Sweet Home Alabama' has been the most over-used song in TV advertisements, films, and network shows. This was supposedly a routine way of working for Gilmour and in this case it resulted in guitar solos that feature on everybody's list of greats. The following list is by no means exhaustive; it is merely my personal search throughout the internet to re-acquaint myself with what has been produced since the 1960s and really, to get back into one of my very first loves; actually the first dream I ever had as a boy of nine years old - of playing in a rock band.Perhaps more relevant than the Fab Four to Van Zant's approach to ballads is Ed King's comment: Ronnie was really a country singer in a rock and roll band. Songs like Tuesday's Gone illustrate just how much of an impact Skynyrd had on Nashville, with its acoustic guitar driving the tune atop a steady backbeat, with a surging string section and sweeping piano flourishes making the Lynyrd Skynyrd bed for a muscular guitar solo.Lynyrd Skynyrd was in a bit of a rut by the time of their fourth album, 1976's Gimme Back My Bullets. I have decided to let emotion take sway here and give you the first five top southern rock songs that pop into my head. It had been recorded for Street Survivors' which was the last studio album before the grievous occasion of the plane crash in 1977.Few guitar licks are as memorable as the opening plucks of Lynyrd Skynyrd's 1974 hit Sweet Home Alabama. These are the ten Lynyrd Skynyrd deep tracks every classic rock fan should hear. Simple Man, co-written by Ronnie Van Zant and Gary Rossington, has become one of the group's trademark songs. This is distinctive Skynyrd - not just song as Ronnie so well backed up by the Honkettes, but instrumentally as well. The band embarked on a reunion tour, which was captured on the 1988 double live album Southern by the Grace of God/Lynyrd Skynyrd Tribute Tour - 1987.The spelling of the name was eventually changed to Lynard Skynard, before it became Lynyrd Skynyrd. This is absolutely their best and its the most amazing lyrics ever by lynyrd skynyrd! With Ed King and Gary Rossington alternating slide guitar melodies and producer Al Kooper on piano, this is the classic Skynyrd lineup's acoustic centerpiecethe tale of an old black blues Simpl Man guitarist inspiring a young white man to a life in music.Heavily influenced by British bands like Cream, On The Hunt is Skynyrd at their hard rocking best. Bands like the Allman Brothers, The Outlaws, and Molly Hatchet made some great music, but the ones who set the standard of Southern Rock music of the 70's is none other than Lynyrd Skynyrd.
