The End

So. After 2 years and 3 months, or 867 days I have found my way home again. My journey ended on a very sad note with the death of my cousin. I had planned to go over land all the way home, but I decided to fly home directly from Tashkent, Uzbekistan instead. When I left Sweden all that time ago I was planning on going around the World without any flying. That changed quite quickly though. It prove...

Going Home

The flight from Bukhara to Tashkent was only about 1 hour. But it didn't arrive until about 10pm in Tashkent. My flight to Riga was at 7am. So I didn't see any point in going into town to find a hotel since I'd have to come back to the airport in the middle of the night. So I walked over to the International Terminal and found myself a seat and sat down. There weren't many places that invited to sl...

Bukhara

From Samarkand I caught another train to get to Bukhara. Getting the ticket was a nightmare. There was one window open at the station. And a big group of people was crowding in front of it trying to be the next in line. Luckily I'm quite big and I had my big backpack on so it wasn't any problem getting to the front of the line. Arriving in Bukhara I found a mashrutka that took me into town. I chec...

Samarkand

To get to Samarkand I wanted to catch the early morning fast train. But because I didn't speak any Russian I got a ticket on the even earlier morning slow train. It was pretty comfortable though and only took maybe an hour more. So I'm not complaining too much about it. Samarkand was every bit as impressive as I had thought it would be. Getting of the city bus just outside the Registan, the main h...

Tashkent

After a few hours long taxi ride I arrived in Tashkent. The driver drove around town for a little while to drop other passengers off. I was invited by 2 middle aged women to come in and have a cup of tea with them when they arrived at their house. But I decided to decline the offer. I had no idea where I was or how to get anywhere, they didn't speak any English either, and off course I had all my ...

Kokand

Leaving Kyrgyzstan and entering Uzbekistan was far easier than I had been led to believe. I had been told that there are serious problems at the land borders with long queues. And even more trouble with border officials on the Uzbek side wanting to search through everything. When I arrived at the border outside Osh there were no other people there. That particular border is otherwise really busy w...

Taxi ride to Osh

I got up early one Sunday morning to catch a mashrutka or a taxi to Osh. I packed my bag and said goodbye to Ulf. And then I left. I had spent more or less 3 weeks in Bishkek and was starting to get to know the city. As I was leaving I was thinking that this won't be the last time I am in Bishkek. There are so many things I'd like to do in Kyrgyzstan that I couldn't do this time because of the col...

Bishkek with Aiday

After spending a lot of time in Bishkek either on my own or with Andreas, who was getting busier with work all the time, I decided that it was time to find some more friends. So I did a search on the Couchsurfing website to see what I might find. I found Aiday. A nice young girl who used to live and study in Sweden. So I contacted her and we met up the next day in a foreigner run bar. After that w...

Return to Bishkek

When I got back to Bishkek Tommy told me that I couldn't stay in the same apartment anymore. But he had another apartment that was closer to the city center where I could stay instead. It was an apartment for visiting consultants from Sweden. This week there would be one consultant staying there,Ulf from Gävle . But it was no problem that I stayed there as well he said. It was also a nice big...

Kadji Sai

When I arrived in Kadji Sai I wasn't sure about where to stay. In my guide book it said that the nearest cheap hotel was some 3 km away from the lake. Walking there didn't tickle me very well at all. So I asked some people if they knew of a place. They pointed me to some guy in a taxi. He apparently has a home stay setup in his house. Basically it's an opportunity for tourists to live in a realKyr...
