West Coast Story
9th Nov 2010 - Caribbean - Turks & Caicos
Da Conch Shack

Today I hired a car and (accidentally) managed to drive from one end of the Island to the other.  I set off to find Da Conch Shack, which I eventually did manage to track down, however, managed to also see every part of this very small island.  I settled in on a beachside table with a Rum Punch from the Rum Bar, and my postcards while I waited for my Conch Fritters.  Fishermen sitting on the beach go out to fetch them, they are pummelled on the beach (with a meat tenderiser no less!) and 10 minutes later, appear on your plate.  Not exactly my favourite food - a tough kind of calamari texture with a bit of an after-taste, not masked by the peas, potato and carrot (I think) puree around them - but I have now Been There, Done That.......  A lovely walk on the beach at sunset and tonight I am heading for the Coco Bistro which is meant to be the Island version of fine dining.
