West Coast Story
14th Apr 2012 - 24th Apr 2012 - After a Wonderful Aussie Break
Still Cold in San Francisco

A quiet week has just passed, however, it has been SOO cold, I just can not get warm at all - maybe I was spoiled being in mild Sydney for the past few months, but really I am most uncomfortable and don't want to venture out too much ....... I have been busy at work with both the ECOG and the Helsinn consultancies, which has been nice, and making arrangements for the Boston meeting too. Our Airbnb experience with the ladies from NYC went well, although there is a bit more work in it than originally anticipated. The ladies were lovely and non-intrusive - but it is hard to know if we are supposed to be full-service B&B, or a little more laid-back. I guess the rhythm is determined by each guest. I have some more people coming in May (4 lots in fact!) and discovered that I will not be here - so, I have engaged a local personal concierge service (!) to turn the place over between guests for me. What fun to be using one of my own 'new profession' - I think it is fabulous with the best thing about concierge services being that they are responsive to the individual needs and tasks. They won't just come in and clean, but will do the beds, change the flowers, check the fridge and at the exact time I want (so that one group of guests can 'check out' and another than 'check in') We will see how it goes...... Had a lovely day with Gilbert on Saturday for his birthday - we did a 'Sunday drive' and then had dinner in San Mateo. It was 66 degrees in San Francisco and 87 degrees in Burlingame when I arrived there - how can there be such a temperature difference in just 10 miles!! On Sunday, Patty Jassak was in town from Chicago so we were able to spend a wonderful afternoon and evening catching up together. Dinner at the local restaurant 'luella' was a surprise - only 3 blocks down Hyde, great food and good prices - we could even catch the Cable Car if we were feeling too lazy. I had really underestimated it, but will return again. Doing (more) taxes, reviewing slide sets and some preparations for ASCO in early June. My appointment at the Northern Cancer Institute has gone through so I am now ready to take patients when I return to Sydney in June (?!!). Looking forward to my trip to Boston in 10 days and probably will spend some time in the Caribbean while I am over there - just trying to get my dates organised. But once that all happens, it will be time to return to Oz for Jen's birthday - the time is just flying. Love Deb
