West Coast Story
26th Apr 2010 - Australia for Jen
Washington DC and more Drama Part II

In my eagerness to get back on the blog, I did not finish so, I am now back again.  We had a wonderful day which, as I said, was originally to buy a car, however, we decided to keep on going to Stanford Shopping Center (you are not allowed to call it a Mall!)  It was a wonderful trip for me down memory lane as I glimpsed visions from our past.  I was able to show Jenny our old apartment as we drove around the Medical Center campus and we visited her old Arboretum kindergarten.  The bulk of the day was spent at the Mall, shopping for Graduation dresses, which is a much harder exercise than one would imagine.  We had to get just the right dress, and just the right dress for the photos. Many hours were spent and much angst, however, we finally found some dresses that look absolutely fantastic on Jen - by the time we had finished, Pretty Woman had nothing on us as we loaded our car with our spoils.  Back to sunny San Francisco and reality, sadly.  Our  newest drama unfolded on Friday as we had finally decided that Jen needed to go back to Australia to resume her search for internships, etc, and we booked her on Friday's flight, assuming that if we did not get her letter for her biometric testing by then, it would be after her Graduation.  Sadly, the letter arrived at 3:30pm on Friday.  Poor Jen, she raced to the office to get her testing done so she could still make her flight at 10pm!!  She got there before they officially closed, but they had already locked the doors.  She knocked and knocked until they opened up again, and explained her dilemma, and they refused!!  Getting across San Francisco in that record time was no mean feat, and my heart went out to Jen - we were so close!!  So, we had to cancel her trip to Sydney, and have rebooked for Monday, in the hopes that we will have better luck today!  This whole drama has really been a grey shadow over an otherwise wonderful trip and I just wish that for a country that is supposed to be so welcoming, they concentrate on someone else who is probably really trying to violate their visa or immigration.  Jen is doing her best to maintain her residency and get her education and career together - she should be applauded, not hassled like this....  Saturday, I had to work at NSABP - another wonderful series of receptions - 32nd floor of Westin St Francis and dinner at Cliff House!!  Life is tough.... Sunday, we went house hunting and took a wonderful drive to Sausalito, which is well worth a Sunday all of itself.  I will definitely go back on a lazy day (is there such a thing!!)  I will be in Sydney in the next week or so - can't wait to see you all. Love Deborah and Jenny
