Seminyak's Exploding Waves by DG

We headed straight to the beach after our journey from the Gili's and sea could not have been more different to what we were used to from the previous few days. Big waves, strong currents, lot's of bathers.

But the really special thing was the exploding waves!

Basically the shape of the beach meant that waves came into the shore as normal but were then reflected back out to sea so when the incoming wave collided with the outgoing wave there was a big splash that looked a lot like an explosion.

Beth and I saw some kids timing their runs to be right in the collision zone and, seeing as we're just big kids, we decided to do it too and it was AWESOME!

I'd heard about this phenomenon of colliding waves before - apparently it happens more often in harbours - but I'd never seen it with my own eyes and it was a real experience.
