Holidays
9th Aug 2012
Trondheim, Norway

Thursday 9th August 2012
Trondheim today, we watched the captain bring the boat in. We are only 15 mines walk from the town so we are walking in today. We walked through the town and up a very steep hill to a Napoleonic fort with views over the town. Trondheim is quite a large town quite busy with a very active port area. Very clean and tidy and orderly. No buildings that need maintaining., with all the grass cut and flowers and trees all over the place. They have reconstructed the old wooden buildings that were along the wharf area and made it very pretty. The original buildings were burnt down by the Germans as they retreated. The buildings are different colours along cobbled streets. We saw the cathedral and Bishops Palace and the Royal Palace which is the largest wooden building. It did rain for a bit while we were on our way down from the fort, but the sun came out and we dried off. We also went into a museum on the Norwegian resistance during the war which was interesting. We were ashore for 5 hours walking, quite tired now and Hugh is asleep.
We did not come back to the ship for lunch so we have just had afternoon tea. Toasted cheese sandwiches and hot buttered scones. Hugh had cherry bread and butter pudding. Diets when we get back.
