Sharpie's big skive!

Farewell Oz Can you believe how time fly`s by? We`ve said our goodbyes to Australia and are now in Christchurch New Zealand. We`ve only been here for a couple of days and have slept through most of it! Honestly, an early morning and two hours time difference has really taken it`s toll on us. We`ve found it hard to get out of bed before midday! God travelling`s hard work! So then I`d better update you on our last two weeks or so in Australia. I warn you this may be a bit sketchy. From Surfers we headed to Byron bay. Byron is a beautiful chilled out coastal town, however it`s main attraction apart from the gorgeous beach is weed! The neighbouring village of Nimbin is where everyone goes to get their supplies and then brings it back to Byron to `chill` out and then when they`ve got the munchies there`s countless numbers of cafes and snack places to do the trick! Like I said a real chilled out place even if your not smoking the local herb! We stayed in a two bedroom apartment and met a group of girls who we went out with that night for one of their birthdays...21st! God we felt old, most of the people we meet have just graduated from uni so we feel complimented when they say we look 23....honestly they do! Most times! Whilst in Byron we went sea kayaking to see the whales and dolphins. Well, I saw a turtle and a Humpback whale breach in the distance but no dolphins, however i was lucky as most of the group saw nothing! While we were out at sea we stopped for tea and biscuits! Problem was it was pretty choppy so most of us got sea sick! From Byron we stopped off at Port Macquarie for a few nights. The main reason we stopped here was that our tour leader from China`s parents owned a Baskins & Robins ice cream parlour and we had to give his Dad a book....and also we got a free ice cream!!! We hire bikes from our hostel but they were death traps so we rode to a bike hire and swaped them for some newer models with gears! We spent a few hours cycling around the town and surrounding areas. We stopped off at the Kuala hospital which was so heartwarming to see that so many local people care for these gorgeous animals, giving up so much of their time, without any government funding at all. we then cycled through the woods and past a creek only to find out that we were surrounded by thousands of fruit bats! I don`t need to say that we got out of there pretty quick! So from there we headed down to Sydney. Um, this was an eye opener for us! We arrived at about 1am and the hostel we`d booked was in the middle of the red light district! There were more strip joints and adult shops than what we saw in Bankok! Well almost. We stayed there for that night then headed off to Coogee for a couple of days. Coogee was a nice peaceful seaside town, most of the time. While we were there we witnessed two fights! One involved a couple we`d meet, for some reason a group of guys (looked like squaddies) took a dislike to this guy and decided to go for him...felt just like being back in Salisbury and the other was a girl in our hostel who`d found out the guy she`s slept with was sleeping around too! Youngsters these days! I`m not sure whether I mentioned that we`d meet a couple (Narrelle and Adam) in Port Douglas who invited us to stay with them in Melbourne? We took up their offer and went down to melbourne for six days. They lived about 30 mins outside of Melbourne in what we would call the countryside, however to them it was still urban! They`re house was amazing, it was like something you`d see on one of those property shows, it was gorgeous. They were just SO friendly like you wouldn`t believe. Adam took a couple of days off work to drive us around and show us the sights...he even took us to Ramsey street! On the Saturday night they ivited a few of their friends around for a party, obviously being out numbered by the Aussies we were taken the micky out of for being poms! But all in good jest! Anyway, Jo and i said that we would take it easy and not drink too much just in case we made fools out of ourselves...as you can guess they were the famous last few words! The wine started flowing follwed by shooters and then more wine as you can imagin the rest was history! Unfortunately Narrelle managed to capture all of this on video, god knows how as she was even worse than us! We watched it the next day and cringed, so embarassing! To top off their hospitality and generosity they took us to Lourne, a town along the Great Ocean road where we all stayed over night. So, our antics from the night before couldn`t have been too bad!!! From Melbourne we headed back to Sydney to watch Australia Vs New Zealand in the netball and then spent a few days in the Blue mountains. I`ll update you on New Zealand when we`ve started to do something!!!! Miss you all and hope everyone is well. Leys x
