Blatantly back in a month!
8th Oct 2006
Photos now back in civilisation

Right am now safely back in Bangkok so I`ve just put on some photos that i couldn`t get on from the last diary entry because I think a snake was trapped in the computer and was determined to get out

I think u guys will especially like the boards of propaganda all over the place!

Just a little commentary on the photos at the end – they are the famous moustache brothers (yeah can’t believe u haven’t heard of them!). They were imprisoned for telling jokes about the government, but have now become a bit of a tourist attraction so they are allowed to perform for the tourists in English. No Burmese must be near the house for fear of giving them ideas. More importantly however I got them to do the bahrtut sign and did my own little mini stand up show for them before their show started – dunno if they were laughing at me or the jokes but still a fun night!

Just about the point where these photos end I became pretty ill in Mandalay so have mixed feelings looking back at them – I’m gonna describe my illness cos I think Niall wants to compare extremities but this next bit is a bit mingin so only read if ur a bit minging like us 2

We stayed at a place called the Peacock Lodge – the main recommended place in Mandalay that just so happened to be partially built by Bianca’s farther when they lived there so the little princess could have a place with hot running water, rooms for the servants and a badminton area. They told me they were full but, when I mentioned the Rainbow family, we were straight into the best room and given free booze!

Then it got a bit worse . . .

Started off by thinking it was food poisoning cos I was lying in bed a bit hot and cold, throwing up, headache etc. But it started to get a bit worse to the point that I was so exhausted that I found it pretty hard even getting out of bed so just lay in the toilet for a while. Then each symptom became more and more extreme. I just couldn’t get rid of the headaches no mater how many pain killers I tried to get down. Whenever I dosed off for more than a minute I’d wake up delirious and having no idea where I was or what was going on. I’d be freezing even under a heap of blankets. I’d get so hot that at one point I had to sit in the shower under the cold water for just under an hour to try and cool down. But then I’d be wrapped up and have a soaring temperature but I wouldn’t be sweating at all despite the heat – it was this point that thought I should call a doctor but then read the Lonely Planet to tell me that “if u become ill, the medical services in Burma are next to useless – get on the first flight out” wicked! And in terms of diarrhea – its defined as more than 3 watery bowel movements in less than 24 hours – try 42 in 12 hours! . . . 42!!!

Anyway . . . after a few days of fun I started to feel better and headed off again – will update the rest in a couple of days – and it gets worse!
