As SUVs Become Smaller and Lighter, Land Rover Leads the Way SUVs is "smaller and lighter." There are two reasons for this. First, in their effort to ensure maximum SUV safety after a decade or so of bad press, manufacturers have created models that are less inclined to tip over and are more aesthetically pleasing. Second, due to rising gas prices, customers all around the world, especially North America, are more concerned about fuel efficiency. So ultimately, the option for manufacturers is simple: evolve or wither away. For a latter example, look no further than GM's Hummer, which was discontinued in 2010 due, in part, to the fact it was an astonishing gas guzzler. Land Rover by Jaguar, however, has effectively evolved. Its new fleet is led by its award-winning Evoque, which while smaller and lighter, nonetheless still possesses the durability and off-roading capabilities synonymous with other Land Rover vehicles. At the time of this writing, a freak snowstorm was blanketing the north east part of the continent. It's the earliest snowstorm for the region since the 1860s, and it goes a long way to suggest that we'll be in for a rough winter. Those of us living in Toronto, of course, are used to it, and the autumn brings with it a checklist of things to do to get ready for the months ahead. One of them is properly maintaining your Land Rover for the winter. First and foremost, make sure you keep pace with the maintenance schedule in your owner's manual. Also check the engine, transmission, brake, and power steering fluids. Also check your battery to make sure all connections are secure. It's always best to be proactive when maintaining your car rather than wait until the first blizzard of the season.
