Cave in Rock: last day of our trip
Headed south about 10:30 to Cave-in-Rock. The drive was only 20 minutes from the cabin. The weather was hot again - we’ve managed mid-90's everyday of vacation in early June. Never imagined that. Anyway, we climbed around and made our way into the cave. Immediately cooler in there. It was much larger than I imagined - could see why River Pirates used it years ago. The further back into the cave we went the muddier it got so didn’t make it clear back but far enough so see light from a hole in the back. We then made our way to the ferry at Cave-in-Rock that goes to Kentucky. We made our way across and visited in Marion, KY. Had lunch at a restaurant called “Front Porch”. It was evident from what the locals were ordering that they were known for their fried fish but the boys were hungry for hamburgers and I settled on a ribeye steak sandwich. Making it back across the Ohio River on the ferry we headed for Tower Rock. We didn’t get to see it as the road was completely blocked with trees down from a storm a week earlier. We decided to head back to the cabin to change into our suits and spend our last afternoon at Pounds Hollow beach. We managed to float the afternoon away and then make dinner out of whatever was left in the fridge. We’ve somewhat packed up and will finish in the a.m. and back to Tremont - getting there hours before my sister, niece and nephews arrive from Texas.
