Next? Perth...I hope!
9th Jul 2012 - New Trip
Kuala Lumpar.....nearly home

Here is what we have been up to the last few days.  After meeting Sandra and Peter at the Hotel/Resort we headed for the bar.......as you do.  No dark beers for Phill, but he was so good......he just sucked it in and asked for a beer on the list....what a guy!!  We decided that Sandy, Phill and I would go on the shuttle bus in the morning to the local shopping centre......Allamader Shopping Mall.  Now think 'Hunters Corner' and just upsize it somewhat.  Full of shops with 'bargins galore'.........just nothing you would want to buy!!  We went into a grocery store just to see the prices and were astounded at just how much food cost here. A leg of lamb is $99 Ringgit or about $47 a kilo.......veges cost the earth too.....although not a lot of variety at all, no wonder we have not seen much in the way of veges here, would not want to be a vegetarian here unless I had a great garden myself.
Anyway, we managed to spend quite a few hours at the shops and had lunch at a Mediterranean place there which was quite nice........well, except for the really salty coleslaw that Phill and I left. Back to the Hotel and we met up with Peter at the pool........whew this heat is something!!  Have some good poolside photo's once I manage to load them!

The next day we all got on the shuttle into the railway station and from there caught a train  into Kuala Lumpar for the day, wanted to see the Twin Petrona Towers. The heat was worse than ever and we were so pleased when we caught the underground and found ourselves in the midst of the Petrona Towers........what a huge shopping mall, and this one had all the 'names'.  Boy, it would be a shopaholics delight..........they had everything there!!  We went out side to the water features and had a look at the towers before Phill and I headed off in search of the KL Tower.  We left Sandy and Pete heading back to the cool of the shopping mall..............meet them back at the Hotel.  Anyhow........Phill and I walked around in the blazing sun, thought about getting on the Hop on, Hop off bus.......however when they told us it would be at least 3 hours.......and that is if we did not get off.....we thought better of it.  Besides, we had met a couple of Aussies on the shuttle and they told us good luck if we got on a bus or a taxi as the roads are shot.......they were right.  Lots of work being done on the roads around the place.......not a lot of safety measures!  Which reminds me.  When we got the shuttle there were a family of four that were the last ones to get on.......with only two seats left (one in the front next to the driver) the cab driver and the hotel staff could not believe it when the couple would not do as they suggested and put the kids on their lap and just get in...........a different way of doing things here.  I was pleased to see the couple take a stand and not get on, I would not have either. As it happens the taxi's over here are not that expensive.......if you book using the voucher system. By booking through a third party the price is already fixed and paid for.....no haggling and no getting ripped off......that sounds good to me.  Sooo.......we walked up thousands of steps......okay, hundreds of steps through a park and to the base of the Kuala Lumpar telecommunications tower.  Stood in a queue for ages to get tickets, another queue to get into the elevator.......how many are allowed in here??  They waved us in once it was full.........room for two more!!  He was not joking, even the people already in the elevator looked scared as we gently pushed ourselve in and tucked in the bottom as the door closed.  It is a good way to get your bearings in a new city and we enjoyed looking around at the buildings and street that is Kuala Lumpar.  A place that is going through a transformation I think!  After jostling the crowds up in the tower we were ready to head back to the Pullman Hotel.........after a bite to eat.  No more stairs please and so we caught a taxi back to the Petronas Towers, had lunch and headed back to the hotel and the pool.............whew!!  Remind me not to complain of the cold weather when we get back please.

So, now we are here on our last day.........drinking and eating by the pool.....lazing around reading books, playing scrabble.......another dunk in the pool.  Oh come on....I have to rub it in while I can!!!  Anyhow, I have been onto the NZ herald website to check the weather in NZ and am pleased to see that it will be sunny and dry when we arrive home.....I think I hear that song again..............'Everywhere I go.......always take the weather.......the weather with you!!!!'

There will be many more stories told once we are home I am sure. Looking forward to catching up with you all again.  However........we will miss our friends overseas now...I guess there is nothing for it.........we are going to have to convince them to come to NZ.......should not be too hard to do surely??

Ka Kite, See you soon.
