Harry and Judy's RV Trip
7th Jun 2017 - Summer 2017
Day 19-June 7, 2017-Lake Erie Wine Trail

Day 19-June 7, 2017-Erie, PA, chores and Lake Erie Wine Trail

Another cloudy, rainy day in the morning but the sun came out after lunch and temp went up to 65. We haven’t seen the sun in 18 days and we’re loving it.

Did some chores in the morning, vacuumed, laundry, etc.  We planned to stay here only two nights but decided to stay one more, there’s quite a bit to do here.  After lunch we drove up route 5 the “Lake Erie Wine Country Trail”, 24 wineries in about 50 miles.  We had to take a detour because the road was closed and we went by about a mile of metal sculptures on the side of the road, one a tall tree with two sculptured ospreys in it, almost thought it was real.  We didn’t do all 24 of the wineries but the ones we tried had really nice wine.  One also had a distillery and  brewery but we didn’t like their bourbon or beer although we only had a sip of each.  Most charged a tasting fee but usually only $1.00 for 5 tastes and they would comp it if we bought a bottle.  We usually get one tasting and split it between us.  I was surprised at the number of vineyards here.  Miles and miles of grapevines on one side of the road and Lake Erie on the other side.  Some farms scattered here and there.  On the way back we realized we had driven back into New York state for a while.  Drove down to Lake Erie, which seems huge even though it’s one of the smaller Great Lakes.  Big waves, rocky shore and very clean water.  It’s cottonwood tree season here for a few weeks and there’s so much “cotton” blowing around it looks like it’s snowing.  And the seeds are sticky, once they get on you they don’t want to leave.  Came back to the campground and drove around.  It’s really big, they have 14 cabins for rent, 7 RVs for rent and 1 boathouse for rent.  They rent sites by the night, week, month and seasonal.  A lot of boaters are here, we’re very close to Presque Isle and Lake Erie.  We’re really enjoying the sunshine finally and hope it stays around for a while.
