Harry and Judy's RV Trip
17th Aug 2016 - Summer 2016
Day 84-August 17, 2017-Change of plans and baseball

Day 84-August 17, 2016-Change of plans and baseball

Drove 278 miles in 5-1/4 hours.

Hot and humid-98 degrees.

Left the campground all set to go to Pigeon Forge, TN but when we stopped for lunch at the Tennessee Welcome Center we decided to change course and go south on I-75 instead of through the Blue Ridge Mountains.  We have been to both places before, I-75 is a much easier road to travel on instead of up and down mountains and Harry’s “done” and wants to get home.  Not much to see on the interstate, lots of kudzu choking trees even though it does look pretty.  Bridges over muddy no-name rivers and creeks.  Ran into a blinding downpour for about two minutes, then five lanes of Knoxville traffic.  Started a new book on tape that is pretty good so far.  Got into Chattanooga about 4:30, set up, had a quick dinner and went to a baseball game at AT&T Stadium, The Chattanooga Lookouts (affiliate of Minnesota Twins) vs. The Montgomery Biscuits.  We found out when we got to the game that the Biscuits are an affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays, our team in Florida.  We had tickets on the visitor’s side and didn’t know who to cheer for.  The Lookouts mascot is Louie, the lookout, some round red thing.  He came and sat with us for a while and we had a little dance with him.  The AT&T Stadium is on top of a hill in the middle of downtown Chattanooga and to get to it you have to take an outdoor covered escalator.  We had been here before but didn’t remember this until we got here.  Good game but the one time we didn’t bring parkas or rain gear it sprinkled so we stayed in our seats and waited it out.  A little while later it really rained so we went up into the nose bleed section to stay dry.  Again, it stopped.  The third time it really rained and we went back up in the bleachers.  It was the top of the 8th and they covered the field with a tarp.  The rain kept coming and didn’t look like it would stop and, you know the saying, three strikes and you’re out, so we left.  We figured they would call the game anyway.  The home team was ahead 6-3.  Of course, getting back to the truck we both got soaked, but it’s just water.  The campground we’re staying at is on an actual Civil War Battlefield.  The streets are named after officers, both Union and Confederate.  There’s a monument to the 84th Indiana Volunteer Regiment who fought here and they show a film inside the office about the battles that took place here.  We stayed here once before for a few nights.  This time, only one night.  We liked Chattanooga and would come back some time but now we want to get home soon.  Well, one of us does.
