Day 27-June 15, 2017-Kentucky Horse Park and Lexington Legends Baseball
Warm and a bit cloudy, but not a drop of rain all day!-up to 85.
The plan was to sit around the campground, relax, finally read a book and enjoy the birds and squirrels that are scurrying all over the place. This is the first day it’s been dry enough or warm enough to sit outside and we were looking forward to it. It lasted about an hour. Neither one of is the sit and relax type so we drove over to the Kentucky Horse Park, right next door. Because we’re camping at their campground we have a discount and park free. We’ve been here before and enjoyed it but this time it was busier than before. Horses everywhere. Lots of events and shows going on. Most people are driving golf carts which makes us think they’re all staying at the campground which has been filling up really quickly this morning. The Horse Park is beautiful and if you have any interest in horses this is the place to go. This is the 100th anniversary of Man O’ War who is buried in the park. There are two museums, International Museum of the Horse, where you can learn everything you always wanted to know about horses (and then some) since the dawn of time, and the American Saddlebred Museum, tack shop, horseback and pony rides, steeplechase course, three huge arenas, shows, demonstrations, trail rides, Hall of Champions, dressage and all sorts of events going on in the show and warm up rings. Sometimes more horses crossing the roads than cars. We really enjoy coming here. Back to the campground for lunch and to get back to reading again. Harry’s almost finished the book he started many moons ago and I just started one that is good so far. Then off to the ballgame. The Kentucky Ale House is right at the ballpark and their patio opens up behind home plate. Had a burger there before the game. Beautiful night for a game. The Lexington Legends, Class A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals, beat the Asheville Tourists 7-6. It was “Bark in the Park” night, you could bring your dog and there were 65 dogs in the park. They also had Tech, the bat dog, who ran out and retrieved the bats at home plate. “Big L”, their mascot, is one of the most interactive mascots we’ve met. It was also “Thirsty Thursday”, beer $1. Good game, great seats, fun time.
