Move over Gidget.... Kathie is the new surfing Queen of Capetown

2018-01-24

Ken has a niece living in Capetown who is a famous surfing champion of SA... think a female Midge Farralley ? (is that how you spell it ??) Kay is too gorgeous and her mission was to get me to stand up on a surfboard while we were here.. well, as I watched the young ones ( you know ... anyone below 30 ) jumping from a prone position flat on their stomach on the surfboard to a standing position balanced like they were hanging ten.... I thought struth I could not jump like that if a lion was after me...

After a few "practises"on land, we got into the water.... we laughed so much, I nearly drowned.. anyway I finally managed to struggle to my knees while staying on the board.... a few times !

It was a lot of fun really.. but think I should have started when I was nimble and ten years old !

Apart from surfing in Capetown, we have been exploring the Waterfront area. We had a wonderful dinner in this place looking directly up at Table Mountain. The clouds swept over the top to form the "tablecloth". Was great.

We visited an old friend of Ken's, DJ, who was turning 87. He is in a nursing home so we took a brownie with as many candles as we could fit onto it for him. He laughed so much, and promptly blew them out. Ken and he had a good catch-up.

We meandered through the old section of downtown. Ken came across the projectors from a cinema he worked at here being sold in an antique shop !!

Tomorrow we set sail on the Queen Mary 2. Very exciting. There will be no more blogs now till we get back to Australia I think cos we will  not have internet on the ship.

So, we will do our best to have a ball on the Queen Mary and hope you are enjoying the updates !
