Also as you all know i've been featuring some of kids in the programme so as you all get to know how they are getting on in school and how they feel on what the Mtomondoni sponsorship programme has done to them in terms of education.Today therefore i've featured the youngest kid in the programme by the name-Gibson (Kindergarten 2).
Gibson now aged 8 years is one of the youngest kid in the programme and learning at Mtwapa Academy in kindergarten 2 class.Unfortunately Gibson has been suffering from 'down syndrone' since birth and his parents had lost hope for their's son's future in terms of education since apart from finding a school for him, the parents had no money to take Gibson to school as he also needed special attention and needs.Lucky enough Gibson got sponsored into our programme which was a great relief to his parents.After assessment at the school it was found that Gibson could learn in a normal school, though he showed to be slow learner.For sure his parents could not imagine that Gibson could one day be able learn anything with little or no support. Suprisingly, ever since Gibson was sponsored to our programme he has tremendously improved in almost everything day by day.At the kindergarten 2, the following are the kind of subjects Gibson does;
1.Language-includes reading, oral skills and writting.
2.Number work-includes counting, recognition of numbers, addition, subtraction, shaping of number.
3.creative activities-includes recognition of colours, drawing, constructive modelling and folding of paper.
4.Social and environmental studies-includes recognition of family members, role playing in form of drama and poetry.
According to his class teacher, madam Angeline, Gibson can now read, copy, recognise letters, sounds and be able to pronounce some few words.He is also now able to do some colouring work, draw, model and construct.On extra curriculum activities Gibson likes playing musical instruments and playing football.He can also feed himself unlike before where he was dependant.Generally Gibson looks happy, determined and improving, his parents are happy too, thanks to his sponsorship.
