How do I reduce the size of movie files?
Uploading large files to GetJealous.com can take a long time and so it is sometimes advisable to reduce the size of the file before uploading it.
If using Windows, we have had success in using the free 'Media Coder' application to reduce the size of the movie to be uploaded.
You can download and install Media Coder from their download page. There is quite a lot of garbage on this page so make sure that you click the "Get Installer" link.
Once you have downloaded and installed Media Coder, Start it up, and click the Media Coder on your task bar if you can't see it on the screen.
Add the files that you would like to shrink by clicking the Add... button
Click the Audio tab and select the 'Copy Audio' Checkbox
Click the Video tab and select the following options:
Mode: Quality Based
Enable Video: Ticked
Slide the quality bar to 50%
Format: Mpeg 2
Container: Mpeg 2
Click the Start button at the top of the window. Your movie will be converted to the flv format which can be uploaded directly to GetJealous.com
If the file is still too large then decrease the quality setting, or resize it via the Picture tab. You can also use this tab to rotate your movie.
GetJealous.com as no association with the Media Coder product, and accepts no responsibility or support for its use. Ensure you fully understand it before use. There is a chance that you may lose your original file if you overwrite it with a version of lower quality so always make a back up.
